What is PCP in NIOS?

Each accredited institution or coaching is supposed to organise Personal Contact Programmes (PCP) on weekends/holidays under the guidance of a facilitator, who is generally a scholar associated with the NIOS Board. During these sessions, teachers (teachers of the school if the school itself is a study centre, or those of a school working in collaboration with the study centre if it is an NGO) help students with the course work. Special practical classes are also held for the students who have enrolled for the particular subjects that require practical exams. 
 
NIOS Admission 2024
 
Upto a maximum of 30 PCP classes as per NIOS norms, will be organised per subject for theory and 5 additional for subjects having practicals on face to face basis, generally on weekends and holidays, in the first year of admission, by the AIs (Study Centres). First PCP will start on Ist Sunday of October i.e., 6th October 2014 at 9.30 am. for Ist Block of admission and on Ist Sunday of April i.e., 6th April, 2015 at 9.30 a.m. for IInd Block of admission respectively at your AI and thereafter on every Saturday and Sunday as per the time table prepared by the Study Centre. These contact classes are not meant for covering the curriculum. DO NOT EXPECT FULL TIME CLASSROOM TEACHING as in formal education system. The teachers are there to help and guide you with regard to your difficulties. It would be in your interest to attend all the contact classes. Attendance in five practical classes is compulsory.

 

To perform better in NIOS board a learner must appear for examination only when student feels is well prepared in the subjects. Learners should also attend Personal Contact Programme (PCP classes) regularly solve/clear their doubts and problems that they have faced while going through the study material by themselves. Also, Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) should be taken seriously as these help in knowing one’s progress and preparation. The study material is designed in a self-explanatory way and it comprises of books, and may include audiocassettes and videocassettes also. They also use televised mediums such as the Doordarshan and the Radio to broadcast study programmes. 

These institutions also have to carry out motivational sessions for the enrolled students, to keep them enthusiastic about the course.
